Restylane® Refyne

California Skin Institute is excited to be one of the first dermatology practices to offer Restylane® Refyne to patients struggling with smile lines, also known as nasolabial folds. Approved by the FDA for the in December 2016, this dermal filler was specifically developed for injection in parts of the face where the skin experiences creasing due to facial expressions. The core idea was to make Restylane® Refyne a more flexible filler that can produce nuanced outcomes that look natural.

What is Restylane® Refyne?

Restylane® Refyne is a dermal filler that can be used to provide the skin with support in areas where expression lines have formed. These wrinkles develop over time due to the constant facial movements, like smiling or wincing.

Because our facial expressions are so wired to the emotions we experience, most people don’t even notice their facial movements from one moment to the next. In this way, facial movements are virtually inseparable from how we feel inside – a visual manifestation of the millions of neurons firing in our brains at any given moment.

However, the repeated actions of smiling and other facial movements can lead to the development of issues like nasolabial folds. This becomes more visible as we age, due to the breakdown in the collagen support structures, shifting of fatty tissues and the wear of ligaments under the skin.

Restylane® Refyne was developed to give the skin more support in these areas while at the same time having the flexibility to easily adjust to any facial movement.

How Restylane® Refyne Works

Like many injectables from Restylane® Refyne was developed with hyaluronic acid at the core of its formulation. There are several benefits to using this ingredient:

  • Hyaluronic acid is extremely hydrophilic. It “loves” water. When injected into areas with wrinkles, Restylane® Refyne will provide immediate support to make nasolabial folds less visible. Further, the hyaluronic acid will attract moisture to the treatment site, to provide more volume, help the improvements last longer, and hydrate surrounding tissues.
  • Further, hyaluronic acid is a popular choice in dermal fillers because this chemical is also naturally produced by our bodies. Therefore, adverse reactions are less likely to occur.

What makes Restylane® Refyne truly special, however, is the XpressHAn methodology used in the formulation. It’s a way of cross-linking the hyaluronic acid molecules to produce a gel that is more flexible and can better accommodate facial movements.

What Restylane® Refyne Treats

Restylane® Refyne was designed primarily to address expression lines, like nasolabial folds. This filler is focused on achieving a balance between providing support under the wrinkle and flexibility, for improvements that are more nuanced and natural.

How long does Restylane® Refyne Last?
