How Lutronic eCO2® Works
The Lutronic eCO2® is an ablative laser that resurfaces damaged skin by selectively target a fraction of the skin cells at the treatment site. This process acts not only to target damaged cells, but also stimulates the growth of healthy skin and supportive collagen fibers. As the skin heals, dark spots fade, wrinkles smooth, and skin texture and complexion improve.
What Lutronic eCO2® Treats
One of the great benefits of the Lutronic eCO2® laser is the versatility it provides during treatment, enabling your California Skin Institute provider to use a variety of settings to disperse the laser beam bursts across the treatment area. This reduces heat absorption by surrounding tissues, which can be very helpful for reducing downtime after treatment.
Additionally, the laser can be calibrated with a variety of settings, which allows your provider to fine-tune the treatment to your specific needs. California Skin Institute providers can use this laser to treat issues like:
- Dark spots on the face, neck, hands, and other parts of the body
- Acne scars
- Scars from injury
- Wrinkles
- Rough skin texture
Does Lutronic eCO2® Hurt?
Because the Lutronic eCO2® laser targets a portion of skin cells at the treatment site, some discomfort is to be expected during the procedure. However, California Skin Institute providers will go to great lengths to ensure a pleasant experience and maximize your comfort. This may include the use of numbing cream and a variety of other steps.
Further, comfort is increased because the laser uses a pseudo-randomized approach to delivering the micro-laser beams to the skin. This is similar to the fractional laser method, but instead of a grid pattern, the microbeams are applied in a more randomized manner, which reduces heat absorption by surrounding tissues. It’s a vital aspect of this eCO2 laser, as the decreased energy absorption significantly increases patient comfort after the procedure and reduces healing times.
Additionally, the unique laser targeting methodology of Lutronic eCO2® reduces the number of times the laser is passed across the same segment of the skin, which further reduces discomfort.
Typical Lutronic eCO2® Treatment
Before you Lutronic eCO2® laser treatment, your California Skin Institute provider will evaluate your skin condition, help you understand your treatment options, and give you a better idea of possible results based on your unique situation.
When your treatment begins, you will be asked to sit in a comfortable chair, in a semi-reclining position. Your provider will also place protective eyewear over your eyes, to ensure your safety.
Once the procedure starts, your California Skin Institute provider will use the Lutronic eCO2® laser to deliver bursts of laser energy to your skin. The sensation during this step of the procedure can be described as a rubber band snapping against the skin.
After the procedure is over, your provider may ask you to apply special lotions, to help your skin heal faster.
Lutronic eCO2® Side Effects
Side effects after Lutronic eCO2® laser treatments include skin redness, mild swelling (due to inflammation), and minor crusting and oozing at the treatment site. This is part of the body’s healing process and is completely natural.
We strongly recommend that any patients undergoing this procedure take a few days off work, to allow the skin to recover. This is especially important as the skin’s natural UV defenses will be weakened after treatment, which makes it imperative to avoid direct sun exposure.
How Many Lutronic eCO2® Treatments will I need?
Each patient’s situation is unique, and the number of treatments needed will depend on your skin condition and aesthetic goals. However, most patients may see dramatic improvement after just one treatment.
