Body Contouring for Men

Body Contouring for Men, California Skin Skin Insititute

Over the years, California Skin Institute providers have helped many men address stubborn pockets of fat with a number of body contouring procedures.* The popularity of these treatments has increased significantly in the last decade, as new technology has made it possible to target fat without surgery.*

Of course, such procedures are not a substitute for weight loss and a healthy lifestyle. However, many of our male patients come in for body contouring treatments because they’ve hit a plateau and cannot seem to lose pockets of fat in the abdomen, the flanks, arms or legs, no matter how hard they try. In such situations, removal of excess fat through body contouring procedures can be a viable solution.*

If you’re interested in a personalized, one-on-one body contouring consultation, please call a California Skin Institute practice near you, or email us through the Contact Form.*

What is Body Contouring?

Body contouring refers to a variety of surgical and non-surgical treatments that help remove pockets of excess fat to create a more aesthetically-pleasing body shape.* This can mean removing excess abdominal fat, reducing a double chin, and shrinking love handles, among other procedures.*

It’s important to note, however, that body contouring isn’t just about fat removal, but about creating better-accentuated transitions between different parts of the body.* For example, for male patients, reducing abdominal and flank fat can create greater contrast between the abdomen and the shoulders, thus achieving a more athletic, masculine look.*

To achieve these improvements, California Skin Institute providers can perform a variety of treatments, including

  • Liposuction, which is the physical removal of fat from the area through a cannula.*
  • Liposonix, a non-invasive treatment that targets fat cells with ultrasound waves.*
  • Vanquish, another non-invasive treatment that targets fat cells by heating them up with radiofrequency energy.*

Let’s take a look a closer look at one of the most popular non-invasive treatments, CoolSculpting, in more detail.*

How CoolSculpting Works

The main idea behind CoolSculpting is to reduce pockets of fat without surgery.* This is achieved by cooling the area to a low-enough temperature that causes the fat cells to become damaged.* Over time, the lymphatic system will remove these damaged fat cells from the treatment site, causing the area to shrink.*

During treatment, the patient reclines comfortably in the procedure chair and the CoolSculpting applicator is positioned onto the treatment area. The applicator gently tugs on the skin with suctioning, as this allows the fat to be targeted more effectively.* However, this doesn’t feel painful or uncomfortable.*

As the procedure begins, you will feel the area becoming cooler. Through this process, CoolSculpting reduces the temperature in the area until the top layers of fat are damaged.*

After the CoolSculpting body contouring treatment has been completed, you can immediately return to work and other activities, as there is no down time.* Over the coming weeks, you will notice a decrease in the size of the fat pockets, as the damaged fat cells are gradually removed from the body.*

During your follow-up consultation, your California Skin Institute provider can help you assess your progress, and help you decide if additional treatment sessions are the right step.*
