California Skin Institute’s President and Founder won the 2010 Iron Surgeon competition held at the annual meeting of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery in Chicago, Illinois. The competition is an annual competition where competitors from around the country compete to demonstrate surgical techniques and cosmetic outcomes. Based on the votes of over 800 colleagues, Dr. Morganroth was awarded the highest scores amongst the six competitors and was awarded the top honor of Iron Surgeon 2010. Congratulations Dr. Morganroth!

The FDA recently announced that the PinPointe FootLaser is cleared for temporary increase in clear nail in patients with onychomycosis. The PinPointe FootLaser is a patented laser device that has been shown in clinical studies to significantly reduce nail infection. The patented PinPointe FootLaser is a specially designed laser beam that goes through the nail and safely reduces the infection in the nail bed that cause onychomycosis. California Skin Institute has this and many other lasers which can be useful in many dermatologic conditions.
The California Skin Institute is proud to introduce Susan T. Butler, MD and announce the opening of our new San Mateo location. Dr. Butler is a board-certified dermatologist and fellowship-trained Mohs surgeon who practices the full range of medical and surgical dermatology with a special interest in skin cancer evaluation and treatment, Mohs surgery, facial reconstruction, and cosmetic dermatology including Botox, Dysport, wrinkle fillers, lasers, and leg vein sclerotherapy.

We’re pleased to announce the addition of Rafael A. Schulze, M.D. to the California Skin Institute. Rafael A. Schulze, M.D. is a board certified dermatologist. He graduated with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Engineering Management (Mechanical) from United State Military Academy. Prior to medical school, Dr Schulze spent several years in remote rural areas in Republic of Panama where he completed numerous humanitarian construction projects rebuilding clinics, schools and farm-to-market roads shortly after Gen. Manuel Noriega’s capture. He received his doctoral degree in medicine, magna cum laude, from University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine.
Almost seven percent diagnosed with cancer; 45 percent referred for additional consultation. The statistics didn’t surprise the dermatologists who turned out to provide free skin cancer screenings at El Camino Hospital on Saturday, May 17th–but they certainly shocked the 21 persons–about 7% of the 293 people screened–who received “presumptive diagnoses” of skin cancer at the event. In total, 45% of Saturday’s participants were referred for additional consultation or a biopsy. While none of these may actually result in a cancer diagnosis, all of them reflect skin conditions of concern to the examining doctors.
