DermaSweep for Healthy Skin

Posted on: December 12th, 2016 by csiaccess

To help patients reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, scars, and hyperpigmentation, California Skin Institute aestheticians can utilize a relatively new exfoliation device called DermaSweep.* This technology is suitable for all skin types and can remove dead cells from the skin’s surface without any down time.* Further, DermaSweep treatments can be combined with serum infusions to nourish the skin with helpful ingredients, to promote long term skin health.*

How DermaSweep Works

The idea behind DermaSweep treatments is to give the skin’s natural regeneration processes an added boost.* It’s important to keep in mind that your skin goes through a cycle that produces new cells. This natural cycle lasts about 28 days, and is meant to replace old cells with new ones. However, the effectiveness of this process tends to diminish as we get older, giving our skin a dull, blotchy appearance. The light simply doesn’t bounce off the skin in the same way, and the rougher texture makes skin imperfections more visible.

DermaSweep was designed to help the skin remove these dead cells by physically dislodging them from the surface.* At the heart of this technology are tiny micro-bristles that gently scrape the skin, and a suctioning tip on the applicator that pulls the dead cells away as they are scraped off.* The latter aspect is especially helpful, as it reduces pore clogging.*

Additional Benefits of DermaSweep

One of the lesser-discussed benefits of DermaSweep is its ability to improve blood circulation to the skin.* The gentle scrubbing stimulates the body’s natural healing response, which causes more blood to flow to the skin.* With it, the blood carries more oxygen and nutrients to the skin, helping to heal it from within.*

Further, the body’s healing processes stimulate the growth of more skin cells and collagen fibers, which helps tighten the skin over time.*

DermaSweep Serum Infusions

Skin exfoliation is just one aspect of what has made DermaSweep so popular with patients.* What really sets this device apart from other dermabrasion treatments is the ability to infuse the skin with serums that boost moisture, promote collagen synthesis, and brighten skin among other benefits.*

This step is performed after exfoliation, when surface debris and dead skin cells have been removed with the micro-bristles.* Your California Skin Institute aesthetician will use a special suction setting on the device, which will help the serums penetrate deeper into the skin, where the active chemicals can have greater effect.* Here are just some of the infusions that can be applied with DermaSweep:

  • Vitamin C:  To brighten the skin and promote skin damage repair (vitamin C is an antioxidant).*
  • Hyaluronic Acid:  Known for its moisture-attracting properties, hyaluronic acid is often used in skin care products and dermal fillers.* It can help hydrate the skin and even temporarily increase volume at the treatment site due to the increased moisture content.*
  • Exfoliation:  Your California Skin Institute aesthetician may also suggest several serum infusions that promote gentle skin exfoliation.*
  • Anti Aging:  Several serums, including peptide infusions, can be used to nourish the skin with healthy ingredients that promote skin damage repair.*

Preparing for Treatment

When undergoing DermaSweep treatments, it’s important to avoid certain products and procedures beforehand. For example, if you’ve recently undergone another exfoliation treatment, you may need to wait before trying DermaSweep. Further, anyone using retinol products should use extra caution and stop using such products several days before the procedure.

Is DermaSweep Safe?

When treatment is performed by the expert aestheticians at California Skin Institute, DermaSweep is a safe procedure with no down time.* It’s virtually painless, lasts about 30-60 minutes, and is safe for all skin types, with a few exceptions.* For example, individuals with inflamed acne or severe Rosacea may need to undergo alternative treatments that don’t physically scrape the skin.*
