Kybella – A Revolutionary Double Chin Treatment

Posted on: June 26th, 2015 by csiaccess

Have you heard about the new, non-invasive treatment for a double-chin?* It’s called Kybella, and California Skin Institute is honored to be one of the first medical practices in the entire country to offer this procedure to our patients!* In fact, Dr. Greg Morganroth is a national trainer, and has taught other doctors how to properly administer this treatment. Why are we so excited about Kybella? Because at California Skin Institute we always strive to treat patients the most effective treatments, and the recently FDA-approved Kybella gives many of our patients the option to target the double chin as an alternative to liposuction.*

How the Double Chin Forms

A double chin (submental fat) refers to a mass of excess fat that is located underneath the jaw, between the chin and the neck. There are many reasons why a double chin may form during your life. In some cases it is caused by weight gain, while other individuals may develop submental fat due to genetic factors. However, regardless of the cause, removing a double chin through diet and exercise alone can feel almost impossible.

Before Kybella: Traditional Double Chin Treatments

There is good reason why a double chin is so hard to get rid of: it’s a very difficult area to target through exercise.* Dieting can also be ineffective because genetics play a big role in how our bodies store fat deposits, so you may lose weight in other parts of your body, but still retail the submental fat in the chin.*

Before the introduction of Kybella, cosmetic surgeons had several options for treating submental fat; including surgical liposuction and laser liposuction.* However, while these procedures are also offered at California Skin Institute, most include some down time and some patients need to take time off work – which may not be feasible for everyone.*

How Kybella is Different

California Skin Institute is very excited to be one of the first medical practices in the United States to offer Kybella to its patients, because this treatment has virtually no down time, can be performed quickly, and the improvements appear gradually; which means others won’t realize you’ve had work done.*

Kybella, also known as deoxycholic acid, works by damaging fat cells.* The chemical – which naturally occurs in the human body — breaks down the membranes of these cells, and they are removed from the body through natural processes.* Through a series of regular Kybella injections, your California Skin Institute provider will sculpt away the double chin, to create a more youthful, tighter appearance around the jaw.*

What to Expect During a Kybella Treatment

Kybella treatments are minimally-invasive injections that are virtually free of discomfort.* During your visit to California Skin Institute, your medical provider will assess the trouble area under the chin to see if this treatment is right for you.*

Some of the important considerations to determine if Kybella is right for you include; whether you’re currently experiencing an infection around the chin or the neck, whether you’ve had previous procedures completed in the area, whether you are pregnant or plan to become pregnant in the near future, and several other lifestyle and health factors.* Having this information will help your California Skin Institute provider administer this procedure safely and maximize the potential improvements.*

Once it is determined that you’re a good candidate for Kybella, your provider will administer a series of injections during your treatment session.* For best aesthetic effect, it’s vital to administer this treatment with multiple small injections, as this allows for better targeting of the double chin, and ensures that only the fat cells are destroyed.*

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

The number of Kybella treatments will vary from patient to patient, depending on the desired effect and the current extent of the double chin. Most California Skin Institute patients can expect to have several treatment sessions that are spaced approximately 1 month apart (to give the body’s natural processes time to remove the damaged cells).*
