Hayes B. Gladstone, MD
Dr. Hayes B. Gladstone is a board-certified dermatologist and fellowship trained in Mohs and Reconstructive Surgery. He is known nationally and internationally for his precision in Mohs Surgery and his artistry in skin and soft tissue reconstruction.
Dr. Gladstone specializes in Mohs Surgery at California Skin Institute – Modesto.
Dr. Gladstone received his medical degree from the University of Rochester. He completed a surgical internship at University of California, San Francisco, and trained in Otolaryngology Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Washington before completing a Dermatology residency and NIH fellowship at the same institution. He then completed a Mohs Surgery and cosmetic surgery UCLA affiliated fellowship under renowned dermatologic surgeon Ronald L. Moy, MD where Dr Gladstone was also a Clinical Instructor.
Dr. Gladstone is the former Director of the Division of Dermatologic Surgery at Stanford University and Associate Professor in the Departments of Dermatology and Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. At Stanford he was recognized for his mohs surgery reconstruction, innovative cosmetic procedures, teaching, and his research which focused on virtual reality, robotics and noninvasive imaging for skin cancer.
Dr. Gladstone has been recognized by the Journal of Dermatologic Surgery for being one of the pioneers in performing facelifts under local anesthesia. Along with Dr. Morganroth, he directed the path breaking course, The Next Step which revolutionized immersion teaching for dermatologic surgeons. Dr. Gladstone was the Director of the 2015 Annual Meeting of American Society of Dermatologic Surgeons.
He is the Past President of both the San Francisco Dermatology Society and the Pacific Dermatology Association. He served on the Board of Directors of the California Division of the American Cancer Society as well as the American Society of Dermatologic Surgery. He is the co-founder and President of Blade and Light International which performs volunteer Mohs surgery and reconstruction abroad. He volunteered regularly at the Arbor Free Clinic in Menlo Park for 11 years.
Dr. Gladstone has directed several national courses on cosmetic procedures and anatomy. He has been invited, both nationally and internationally, to speak on skin cancer, mohs surgery/reconstruction and cosmetic procedures. He most recently was the Keynote Speaker at the annual Dermatologic and Aesthetic Surgery International League and South African Skin Cancer Congress in Sun City, South Africa, and was chosen to co-moderate the Mohs Reconstruction session at the American College of Mohs Surgery’s 50th Anniversary Annual Meeting.
He is a senior editor on Dermatologic Surgery and was on the Surgical Advisory Board of JAMA Dermatology, and has published over 100 publications including 30 chapters and one text on cosmetic dermatology.
Prior to his career in medicine, Dr. Gladstone was an award winning sports editor and photographer in Colorado. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Tufts University and with Distinction from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy. He enjoys skiing, playing squash, tennis and the classical guitar, photography and writing short stories. He specializes in Mohs Surgery at California Skin Institute’s Modesto Office.
