R. James Koch, MD
R. James Koch, MD is a double board-certified facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon, and an otolaryngology-head and neck surgeon with over 20 years’ experience. He was born in Western New York, and attended Colby College. From there, he obtained an MS and MD (graduating with Cum Laude honors) at State University of New York (SUNY) where he also performed his residency training.
Dr. Koch completed his specialty training with a fellowship in advanced facial plastic & reconstructive surgery at Stanford University, where his achievements earned him an appointment to the full-time faculty. At Stanford University School of Medicine, he held the positions of Associate Professor, Co-Director of the Division of Facial Plastic Surgery, Co-Director of the Fellowship for Advanced Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery, and Director of the Wound Healing Laboratory. Dr. Koch’s expert knowledge of wound healing serves his patients well in individualized procedure selection and through the recovery process. While at Stanford, he also mentored undergraduates, medical students, residents and fellows. Dr. Koch was voted Teacher of the Year, given the Resident Advocate Award by Stanford residents, and was the recipient of several grants and other awards.
Dr. Koch is a renowned expert in minimally invasive procedures such as the in-office facelift, eye lift, and laser procedures. He has trained the most physicians in the in-office facelift in the country. He also has special expertise in neck lift, brow lift, neck liposuction with skin tightening, scar revision, rhinoplasty (nose reshaping) and rhinoplasty revisions. He has authored over 100 scientific publications, is an international speaker, and recently published the medical textbook “Non-Invasive Cosmetic Procedures.”
Dr. Koch is a Fellow of the American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. Along with serving as the California Medical Association delegate for the California Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Society, he has also served on the Board of Directors for the California Society of Facial Plastic Surgery and the Foundation for Facial Plastic Surgery.
Dr. Koch joins California Skin Institute from a Bay Area aesthetic surgery practice, and his combined background in university hospital teaching, physician training, and private practice allow him to deliver the most up-to-date and quality patient care.
