Elizabeth A. Abel, MD is a board-certified dermatologist who graduated cum laude from the University of Maryland, School of Medicine in Baltimore. After a combined medicine and surgery internship at San Francisco General Hospital and one year of internal medicine at the University of California Medical Center, San Francisco, she began her Dermatology residency at New York University Skin and Cancer Center. While at NYU, she was Chief Resident in her third year and held an NIH fellowship in Immunology in her fourth year. After returning to California in 1975, she practiced part-time at Kaiser Permanente, Santa Clara and at Stanford University Medical Center. She was on the full-time faculty in Dermatology at Stanford University of Medicine from 1982 to 1990. Since 1990 she has been in private practice in Mountain View, California and is a member of the general medical and pediatric dermatology staff at El Camino Hospital. She currently holds a teaching position as Adjunct Professor of Dermatology at Stanford University School of Medicine.
Dr. Abel is the author of more than 80 peer-reviewed articles in medical journals, 22 book chapters, and published a book entitled “Photochemotherapy in Dermatology” in 1991. She contributes to the Dermatology subsection of Scientific American Medicine. She has served on the medical advisory board of the National Psoriasis Foundation and as Assistant Editor of the Journal of American Academy of Dermatology. Dr. Abel is certified by the American Board of Dermatology and is a fellow of the American Academy of Dermatology. Medical Society memberships include Alpha Omega Alpha, Santa Clara Society Medical Association, San Francisco Dermatologic Society, Pacific Dermatologic Society, Noah Worcester Society, North American Clinical Dermatologic Society, and the American Medical Association. She has been voted onto the Best Doctors lists in both San Jose and San Francisco.
Her practice areas of interest include psoriasis, phototherapy (UVB and PUVA), laser treatment for psoriasis, and pediatric dermatology.
Dr Abel was efficient, and addressed all of my concerns (3) in a single visit, which not all
dermatologists will do!
