Alma Soprano®

To help patients remove unwanted hair safely and comfortably, California Skin Institute providers may use a variety of laser hair removal devices, including the Alma Soprano XL. This laser technology was specifically developed for hair removal and combines effective follicle targeting with specialized cooling technologies, to make treatment comfortable. If you’re looking for ways to get rid of unwanted hair with long-term outcomes, please contact a California Skin Institute practice listed below, or schedule your consultation online.

How the Alma Soprano XL Works

The Alma Soprano XL removes unwanted hair by targeting the hair follicle.1 The laser is able to achieve this by targeting the melanin within the hair follicle and heating it up to the point of damage.

Another aspect of Alma Soprano XL that is of benefit to California Skin Institute patients is that the laser is typically safe for all skin types. Many earlier laser technologies for hair removal can cause skin discoloration, especially in patients with darker skin tones. However, because of the unique technology behind the Alma Soprano XL, the hair removal treatments are safe for all skin types and can be performed any time of year.

What the Alma Soprano XL Treats

Alma Soprano XL was designed specifically for laser hair removal.1This advanced laser can yield favorable outcomes on virtually any part of the body. For example, California Skin Institute providers have used this Alma laser to help patients get rid of hair on the legs, chest, arms, back, bikini area, and armpits, among others.

Is Alma Soprano XL Safe?

Yes, when administered by the expert providers at California Skin Institute, laser hair removal with the Alma Soprano XL is a safe procedure. Most patients experience no significant discomfort and only feel a warming sensation on the skin, as the device is passed across the treatment area. This is in large part due to the special cooling technology built into this hair removal laser, which makes the treatment comfortable and prevents damage to healthy tissues.

How Long do Treatment Results Last?

Laser hair removal treatments with the Alma Soprano XL provide outcomes that are long-lasting, once the follicle has been damaged.

What to Expect During Treatment?

When you come in for your Alma Soprano XL laser hair removal, your California Skin Institute provider will first shave the hair on the treatment area. This is an important step during the process, to avoid heating the hair on the surface on the skin, as that could cause skin damage.

After the surface hair has been shaved off, a special gel will be applied to the skin, which will help keep the skin cool and allow your provider to move the laser device on the treatment area more easily.

Before the actual laser treatment starts, your California Skin Institute provider will give you protective eyewear, and will then begin gently moving the laser across the treatment area. It is common to hear a beeping sound during this process, which indicates the laser has been turned on. The duration of the treatment session will depend on the size of the treatment area.

Because of the specialized cooling technology, California Skin Institute patients feel virtually no pain or discomfort during the procedure. Of course, this will vary from patient to patient, based on individual sensitivities.

The typical laser hair removal patient will need 5-8 treatment sessions, spaced approximately 6-8 weeks apart, to target all of the hair follicles in the treatment area.1 Multiple treatment sessions are necessary because hair on the body grows in cycles, and while some follicles may be growing hair, others may be in a resting phase. Because the laser targets melanin in the hair, the follicle must be in a growth phase in order to be targeted effectively.

Alma Soprano XL Side Effects

Some patients may experience mild redness or skin sensitivity after the procedure. However, these side effects are typically mild, and do not cause noticeable discomfort.
