California Skin Institute is one of the first practices in Northern California to offer Volbella. This FDA-approved dermal filler is a recognized treatment option for shallow fine lines and wrinkles.* California Skin Institute providers can utilize this filler to help patients address mild wrinkles with fast treatments that are virtually painless and require no down time.* Further, patients can have confidence in this treatment, as it was designed by Allegran – a company that has deep expertise in making cosmetic injectables like Juvederm Voluma, Volift, and Botox.*

How Volbella Works
Like other fillers in the Juvederm family of products, Volbella is formulated with hyaluronic acid. This is an important ingredient in skin care applications, because it can significantly reduce the appearance of wrinkles by providing volume under the skin and attracting moisture to the treatment site.* And because hyaluronic acid is naturally present in the human body, dermal fillers with this ingredient are less likely to cause side effects.*
However, although they work similarly, not all dermal fillers with hyaluronic acid are meant to treat the same issues.* When it comes to Volbella, its formulation uses a new way of linking hyaluronic acid molecules to allow for a thinner consistency when injected under the skin.* Further, the cross-linking method creates a dermal filler that produces longer-lasting outcomes.*
What Volbella Treats
Volbella was designed to address mild wrinkles and fine lines.* As such, it should not be used to add volume to the cheeks or other parts of the face.* For enhanced volume, Juvederm Voluma is a much better choice, as Voluma was specifically designed with volume enhancement in mind.*
Volbella is more suitable for shallower injections to treat fine lines and wrinkles, particularly around the mouth.* As such, it can help address perioral lines and provide a more youthful appearance to the lips.*
For patients who would like to address several issues at once, Volbella can be combined with a number of other dermal fillers, for an enhanced outcome.* For example, after addressing lip wrinkles with Volbella, fillers like Sculptra or Radiesse can be used to target nasolabial folds.*
If a patient would like to target eye wrinkles in addition to lip treatment with Volbella, fillers like Bellafill or Restylane can be used on the upper half of the face.* Further, this treatment can be combined with Juvederm Voluma, to give the face more contour to complement improved appearance of the lips.*
For frown lines and crow’s feet, Volbella lip treatments can be complemented by neuromodulators like Botox or Dysport.*
Volbella Side Effects
Treatments with Volbella require little or no down time.* In some cases, a patient may experience side effects that may include mild redness and discomfort at the injection site after treatment, which should subside within a few days.* Most patients do not experience visible side effects and even come in for treatment during their lunch breaks.*
