Endovenous Closure

California Skin Institute is honored to have improved the lives of many patients using Endovenous Closure treatments. The procedure is designed for individuals struggling with spider veins and even varicose veins. In many ways, Endovenous Closure is a revolutionary approach that allows your provider to target even large, bulging veins with no surgery and no incisions. Further, this treatment goes beyond aesthetics and can even improve your vascular health by targeting veins deeper in the legs, to reduces chances of blood pooling and deep vein thrombosis.

Keep in mind: Endovenous Closure is often considered a medical necessity and is covered under many medical plans.

What is Endovenous Closure?

Patients who visit California Skin Institute for Endovenous Closure do so because their varicose veins or spider veins have significantly impacted their lives. Many have gotten to a point where they no longer feel comfortable wearing shorts or a skirt. Some feel so self-conscious that they avoid going to the beach or the swimming pool at their gym.

For a large portion of patients, vein problems go beyond aesthetics. The poor valve function in their veins has caused them to develop uncomfortable symptoms, like fatigue, blood pooling in the legs, and has increased their chances of developing blood clots, also known as deep vein thrombosis (DVT).

Endovenous Closure is a treatment process designed to identify and treat problem veins in the legs. It is a minimally invasive treatment with an effectiveness rate of 97% and has virtually no downtime.1

How Endovenous Closure Works

Endovenous Closure has two main aspects. The first step involves the use of ultrasound to identify problem veins in the legs. The second step relies on radiofrequency treatments to heat up and seal the veins.

The sealing of veins with radiofrequency is distinctly different from another treatment called sclerotherapy. The latter relies on the injection of a special solution which causes the vein to collapse. Although sclerotherapy can be a very effective treatment option, it is typically used for smaller spider veins near the surface of the skin.

Endovenous Closure, on the other hand, can be used to treat even bulging varicose veins. Further, the radio frequency application can even be used on veins that are deep within the leg and are not visible to the naked eye.

What Endovenous Closure Treats

Endovenous Closure can be used to treat both spider veins and varicose veins to improve the health and aesthetic appearance of the legs. Additionally, the use of this procedure to seal problematic veins deeper in the legs can improve the patient’s vascular function.

How long does Endovenous Closure Last?

Outcomes from Endovenous Closure are typically long-lasting. However, it’s important to note that the body will sometimes try to re-open the veins. If this happens, a follow-up procedure may be necessary.

What to expect during your Endovenous Closure Treatment?

The first step in your Endovenous Closure treatment is to fully assess the problem veins in the legs. During the appointment, your California Skin Institute provider will use ultra sound to complete this aspect.

After the problem areas have been mapped out, your provider will utilize a radio frequency applicator to heat up the targeted veins – a process that will cause them to collapse and seal off.*

The procedure is performed on an outpatient basis and typically takes about an hour.

Does Endovenous Closure have Side Effects?

Side effects from Endovenous Closure are typically mild because no incisions are required. Patients may experience some discomfort afterward, as the body adjusts to the changes and may elicit an inflammatory response to protect itself.

However, most patients can continue with normal activities, including exercise, after 24 hours.

Does Endovenous Closure Hurt?

No, the treatment is very comfortable and requires no incisions. Most patients handle this procedure very well.
