Juvederm® Ultra Plus XC

Juvederm® XC is a special injectable gel used to smooth out the skin and reduce the appearance of wrinkles, specifically around the nose and lips. At California Skin Institute, we believe that every patient is unique and therefore, deserves unique care. Though everyone eventually develops wrinkles and sagging skin, no two patients are ever in the exact same situation, which means treatments should be selected very thoughtfully, considering each patient’s unique skin and health dynamics.

In line with this philosophy, our skin professionals offer a number of different dermal fillers that may have a similar purpose (to fill in lines and wrinkles), but which have slightly different ways of affecting your appearance. Learn more about our different injectables and facial fillers here.

What is Juvederm®?

Approved by the FDA, Juvederm® is an injectable gel that has the ability to sit very smoothly under the skin, without the formation of bumps that can cause an uneven skin surface. This ability has made Juvederm® very popular among California Skin Institute patients who visit our providers to get rid of facial wrinkles and fine lines.

Further, the Juvederm® filler gel is has a strong ability to retain volume under the skin, because the ingredients within the gel have moisture-attracting properties. California Skin Institute providers can expertly use this dermal filler to achieve lasting outcomes that look natural.

How does Juvederm® Work?

Juvederm® is a popular filler because it can smooth out facial wrinkles and lines by using an ingredient called hyaluronic acid. A version of this chemical appears naturally in the human body.

In Juvederm®, the hyaluronic acid is formulated in such a way that allows it to continuously attract moisture, even as body begins to break down the molecules in this filler. Therefore, California Skin Institute patients see an immediate improvement from the injection of the gel under the skin and continue seeing positive outcomes even as the body begins to slowly metabolize it.

This ability of Juvederm® to draw in moisture allows for long-lasting improvements.

What does Juvederm® treat?

As we age, our skin goes through drastic changes. The loss of protein fiber structures in the dermis, and constant bombardment of the skin by free radicals eventually wears down the skin’s natural volume and resilience, leading to wrinkles and unsightly creases on the most visible part of your body – your face.

To treat this problem, California Skin Institute doctors have utilized a number of dermal fillers, including the Juvederm® XC filler. Juvederm® is a smooth consistency gel made of hyaluronic acid, which helps to add volume and hydration.

Your healthcare professional will ease Juvederm® injectable gel under the skin to provide a smooth, natural look and feel—so everyone will notice (but no one will know)!

How Long does Juvederm® XC Last?

The improvements are expected to last for up to a year, which can be extended with touch up treatments.1 However, each patient’s situation is unique, and your doctor may suggest a specialized approach to maximize outcomes based on your needs and aesthetic goals.

What to Expect During Juvederm® Treatment

Your California Skin Institute provider will inject Juvederm® using a small needle into problem areas, such as nasolabial folds. You will see improvement immediately, as the gel increases the volume under the skin to smooth out wrinkles.

You will be able to return to your normal daily activities after the injections.

Does Juvederm® Hurt?

California Skin Institute providers understand the importance of a comfortable, pain-free experience for all of our patients. That is why we use very small, thin needles to conduct treatments and can use a numbing cream to minimize discomfort. Further, Juvederm® XC contains lidocaine in the formulation, to increase comfort.
