Perlane® for Deep Wrinkles
California Skin Institute providers offer Perlane® filler injections as a way to add volume to the treatment site and reduce the appearance of deep wrinkles and creases, such as nasolabial folds.* This dermal filler is part of the Restylane® family of fillers, which are based on the moisture-attracting qualities of hyaluronic acid.* However, unlike Restylane® or Restylane Silk®, Perlane® is specifically designed to address deeper wrinkles, and has been effectively used by California Skin Institute providers to treat problems like nasolabial folds and laugh lines.*

What is Perlane®?
Perlane® is an injectable gel that creates volume under the skin to smooth out deep wrinkles and facial lines.* This filler is designed specifically to target deeper wrinkles that may be more difficult to treat with other hyaluronic acid fillers.*
As such, Perlane® injections are often delivered at deeper skin levels and contain larger hyaluronic acid molecules, to create greater volume increase more efficiently.*
How Perlane® Works
The mechanism by which Perlane® filler treats wrinkles relies on the hydrophilic (water-loving) properties of hyaluronic acid. This chemical occurs naturally in our bodies and can hold many times its weight in moisture.*
In Perlane®, this acid is delivered in concentrated form, quickly drawing moisture to the target area and providing nearly-instantaneous increases in volume under the skin.*
Further, Perlane® filler is formulated in a way that slows down the natural breakdown of hyaluronic acid to provide longer-lasting improvements, and is prepared in a way that makes it non-immunogenic (your immune system is highly unlikely to respond to the gel with inflammation).*
What Perlane® Treats
Perlane® is formulated specifically for deep lines and wrinkles that are not easily treated with other hyaluronic acid fillers.* California Skin Institute providers most commonly use Perlane® injections to treat nasolabial folds and laugh lines.*
Perlane® typically isn’t injected into the lips, as the size of the hyaluronic acid molecules and unique chemical dynamics of this filler may create a bumpy, misshapen appearance under the thin skin of the lips (something that is not a concern with the thicker skin around the mouth).* For lip enhancement injections, Restylane Silk® is typically a much better option.*

How Long does Perlane® Last?
Improvements will appear shortly after the Perlane® injections are performed, and typically continue to improve over several days, as the hyaluronic acid draws more moisture to the treatment site.*
Upkeep treatments may prolong the effects of this dermal filler.*
What to Expect During Perlane® Treatment
During your visit to California Skin Institute, your provider will examine your skin to determine how much Perlane® will be needed for optimal outcomes.* Typically, more of this filler is needed for wrinkles that are very deep.*
However, it’s also important to retain a natural appearance, as too much of this filler can create an unnatural appearance when you smile.*
To create improvements that look natural, your California Skin Institute provider will administer the Perlane® filler at several injection sites, using a very thin needle.* Using several injection sites allows the wrinkles to be filled in a balanced way, and a small needle prevents significant bruising or discomfort.*
Does Perlane® Hurt?
California Skin Institute providers go to great lengths to ensure the comfort of each patient.* As such, we will use either a local anesthetic or a numbing cream to ensure that the Perlane® injections are as painless as possible.* The vast majority of patients tolerate this procedure very easily.*
